Josh GrobanNot that there is anything wrong with that sort of thing, of course. It’s just when you hear the name Josh Groban you don’t immediately think pot. Instead you might find yourself thinking about suburban soccer moms screaming when they hear his intense songs of inspiration, like “You Raise Me Up”. Nonetheless, Groban has admitted that he’s spent some time in Amsterdam and by the way he talks about the hilarious moments that he spent with bandmates watching bowling, it becomes obvious what he was doing there.

The interview by Men’s Style offers plenty of interesting tidbits about Grobin that you might not have known.

The highlights include:

On Smoking Pot:

“Hey, do you remember, in Amsterdam, like, how funny bowling got all of a sudden?” Groban asks. “I don’t even remember Amsterdam,” says drummer Craig MacIntyre. “Never mind,” Groban says abruptly, prompting gales of laughter. But he continues the story anyway: “We were in that café”—he pauses meaningfully—“uh, for coffee. And, um, it was on TV and we’re like, ‘Oh, bowling’s on!’ And then, like, an hour later we were like”—he affects a stoner voice straight out of a Harold & Kumar movie—“‘Look at the way they’re squatting!’”

On His Voice:

“People will see a poster of me walking through the desert with, like, a who-can-have-the-most-serious-stare-contest stare on my face,” he says, “and I sing a lot of songs that are very serious, my voice is classically trained . . . ”

On Kid Rock and the Paparazzi:

“I had Kid Rock over after the Emmys. It’s like three in the morning and I’m like, ‘Come on down to my place! Yeah. I told him, ‘You’re totally ruining your image—you gotta get out of here!’”

Ashtyn is definitely the casual gamer in the family. A game fan since she owned an Atari, Ashtyn can remember when her brother rigged the television so he wouldn't lose his Super Mario Bros. game. That is, until the power went out! A fan of all things Mario, Ashtyn is a Nintendo loyalist. She digs playing Mario-style RPG games, watching others play violent shooters (because she sucks at them), and playing casual PC games (like Wedding Dash and Cake Mania). As of now, she is into the Wii and Nintendo DS, though she's certain the games for PS3 and Xbox 360 are more appealing.

you might want to clarify in your column that josh never said HE was using pot that day; he’s very careful w/his throat. You are taking advantage of the conversation he had about his trip to amsterdam. To label him “a pothead’ w/no proof is going a bit far. He did not say I”I was high on pot” You did not SEE him using pot. In a recent interview w/CNN, he said he was never going to do drugs and he was never going to be seen in public drunk.Maybe you would like to look that interview up & see what you can miss-quote from it.
I think a retraction is in order.

Oh give it a rest! Try reading the site and not just the article. I’m a fan of Josh too, I just don’t understand why so many peeps try to make him out to be some kind of saint, and make the rest of us fans look like rabid crazies by attacking anyone who dares speak against him. Come on…there’s nothing in this article that Josh himself didn’t allude to in the interview. He’s trying to make himself more hip, to appeal to the masses…will ya please let him?

In fact, reading the other articles, I’m surprised it wasn’t more scathing. I thought this was an unimaginative rehash of the interview. Frankly, I think this author is capable of doing much better than simply quoting the most interesting bits of the interview. I do love a full-on cynical take on things. Problem is this is too light on the cynicysm. Oh well…

I am a huge fan of Josh’s, and I don’t want to make him out to be a saint either. I love his irreverent sense of humor … and reading this article, if you bother to read the whole thing, you have to keep in mind that sense of humor and not take everything you read to the extreme. Josh is by no means a “pothead,” and unless you have hard proof you can’t slander someone that way. Josh has said, himself, that he will not do drugs because it would hurt his voice and that he’s not going to do something stupid because he knows he’s being watched all the time. This article, that quote in particular, was a JOKE.
