No one is denying that of the three major gaming companies, Nintendo was the biggest letdown at E3. The presentation felt mismanaged, the jokes weren’t funny and the core games that everyone loves were barely spoken about. It’s been the buzz of E3 since Nintendo ended their presentation. Though, Shigeru Miyamoto wants you to understand that this wasn’t a folly of Nintendo as much as it was their main plan of attack.

Apparently, E3 has become so mainstream in its media reach that the folks at Nintendo felt it was more important to capture the casual or new gamer (a huge market in itself), knowing that the hardcore gamer is going to find out about their games in other ways. You might not have heard much about Mario, Zelda, or the other big Nintendo games, but he swears they are in production and will be out for sale soon enough.

In one of his latest interviews with MSNBC he spoke about the E3 conference, explaining Nintendo’s bold strategy:

“I think that there’s probably one other element to it, and that’s that our view of how we use E3 has changed. For a very long time, E3 was an event where – and certainly Nintendo included – catered specifically to the core gamer. Now we look at more … an opportunity for us to introduce new concepts and new types of play that we intend to bring to the broader audience, particularly because of the media that gathers at E3 now.”

Ashtyn is definitely the casual gamer in the family. A game fan since she owned an Atari, Ashtyn can remember when her brother rigged the television so he wouldn't lose his Super Mario Bros. game. That is, until the power went out! A fan of all things Mario, Ashtyn is a Nintendo loyalist. She digs playing Mario-style RPG games, watching others play violent shooters (because she sucks at them), and playing casual PC games (like Wedding Dash and Cake Mania). As of now, she is into the Wii and Nintendo DS, though she's certain the games for PS3 and Xbox 360 are more appealing.
