10. Fable II – From here on down through number 1, I’ve found it incredibly hard to compile this list of video games. I’ve had the chance to play (or dream to play) many amazing video games this year. It was truly difficult to place the games in order of which one is the very best. I tried to base this list on a combination of games I loved and games consumers/fans loved. One of the games I loved the most that received a LOT of attention at E3 was Fable II. I have been trying to get my hands on a review copy of this game since this summer!
In the fictional town of Albion, 500 years after the original Fable, you’ll get to roleplay out an entirely new adventure. The greatest benefit to roleplay style games is the chance to interact with friends and family through online, multiplayer action and Fable II has plenty of that. Live out your life, in this time of Lords, Castles, Duty, Honor and Danger. With so many all-encompassing gameplay features, you’ll be living out your own fantasy adventure thanks to Fable II.
Available specifically for the Xbox 360, a copy of Fable II is going to run you $69.99 in a Limited Collector’s Edition.
9. Grand Theft Auto IV – I’ve been with Grand Theft Auto ever since it first debuted on Windows PC (and Playstation) back in 1997. The game I played on the computer seems so primitive compared to this Grand Theft Auto. Now, the ninth title in the series is available for both PS3 and Xbox 360. If you don’t want this game, then what kind of gamer are you?!
Seriously, this game is awesome. You get to play as someone who gets entangled in the underworld, with organized crime and other criminal activity a major part of the game. This time around, you travel around Liberty City as Niko Bellic, an Eastern European war vet, who is mixed up with the wrong crowd now that he’s in America. from tricked out cars to sexy women, and third person style shooting. This game has it all.
Buy your copy of Grand Theft Auto IV at Amazon for $53.99.
8. Left 4 Dead – One of the most surprising hits of this season is the game Left 4 Dead. Zombies are all the rage this year, from remakes of movies like Day of the Dead to Turtle Studios’ Left 4 Dead. The game revolves around four Survivors who must take on swarms of zombies, after a pandemic breaks out.
Played as a first person shooter, you play with either four friends, or up to three AI bots, as you take control of one of the survivors. You and your other survivors are immune to the mutated rabies virus that has turned humans into zombies. This is, essentially, I Am Legend meets Dawn of the Dead in zombie video game form. The key is survival through teamwork. You depend on the other survivors and they depend on you to kill all of the infected humans before they can attack and kill all of you.
You can pick up a copy of Left 4 Dead on Amazon for $59.99.
7. Prince of Persia – I’ve been waiting for this title to be released. I just received my copy of this for review, actually! Expect a review of this title on Gamerrazzi, soon. The game is available for PS3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.
Set in Ancient Persia, the latest installment in this action adventure could prove to be the best in the series. This game is non-linear and while there have been changes made from past installments of the series, it is receiving quite a bit of praise from fans and critics alike. Released just in time for Christmas, Prince of Persia is looking to be one of the hottest games of 2008.
You can pick up your very own copy of Prince of Persia for $56.99 through Amazon.
6. Animal Crossing: City Folk – I’ve been a fan of games like Animal Crossing since Nintendo first started making games. Animal Crossing: City Folk gets the Gamerrazzi award for the top, family friendly game of 2008. This game is fun for kids of all ages. I dig its life simulation capabilities nearly as much as I do those in the Harvest Moon series.
As you might of guessed, this is just another life simulation game, but its much more fun, in the Animal Crossing environment, where you can make over your Mii, use Wii Speak to its fullest extent and interact with family, friends, neighbors, and strangers all in one fun filled world. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, there is so much to do and see you won’t have much time for any other, far less superior, life simulation game out there.
Pick up a copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk, exclusively for Nintendo Wii for $49.99.
