Can Nintendo and Sony Best Microsoft?
Yesterday, Microsoft brought it to E3 with their announcement of Project Natal. Yes, it was exciting to see Microsoft delving into the world of social media with access to Facebook and Twitter from Xbox Live. It was also exciting to see Microsoft delving into game series’ only available to Sony previously.
The crown jewel though was the announcement of Project Natal. With Project Natal you become the controller. This takes hands-free gaming to a new level. Adding in all the information we’ve learned about Milo and the possibilities for interacting with characters on screen, gamers from around the world have become very excited at the doors Microsoft is opening up.
Today, the second day of the conference, brings announcements from Nintendo and Sony. Their press conferences prove to be interesting. Last year, Nintendo disappointed. Even though the Wii continued to perform well on the market, hardcore gamers and longtime Nintendo fans had little to be excited about. Sony was a little bit better, but there were only games to get excited about, many of which were also available on Xbox 360, as well.
This year, I have to wonder if these two game manufacturers will be able to bring it. Even if Nintendo has some exciting, core game franchise announcements, I don’t see the excitement of this comparing to what we’re feeling about Microsoft. I’m already telling everyone I know that this is the year of the Xbox. As much as I love Nintendo (I grew up with the NES, SNES, Gameboy, etc.) I don’t think they’ll hold a candle to what Microsoft has in the works.
What are your thoughts? Will Nintendo bring it today? How about Sony? How excited are you about Project Natal? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
