E3 2010: Sony Press Conference Live Blog

I have to admit it. The PS3 is my least favorite console. Don’t get me wrong. I like Sony. I just have my reasons for preferring the Xbox and Wii. Therefore, I expect big announcements from Sony. I want them to impress me. As the conference starts, we’ll see what they are bringing to the table.

11:59 AM PST – Sizzle video reel of Playstation Games.

12:00 PM PST – The PS3 plans to go 3D by 2011. This can be achieved on all current PS3 systems via firmware update. There will also be 20 Sony 3D titles will be available by May 2011. 3D games will be available on PS3 today.

12:05 PM PST – Killzone 3 is going to have the ability to play in 3D. You will need to wear 3D glasses to play. The graphics are intense, even without the 3D glasses. This is looking to be the ultimate 3D shooter. The graphics are wicked. I do have to give Sony credit. PS3 has the most beautiful graphics of all the consoles.

Killzone 3 will be compatible with PS3 3D at launch. It is set to be released February 2011.

12:13 PM EST – Here is a list of games that will be made available for Sony 3D.

Sly and Motorstorm
Gran Turismo 5

3rd Party Titles:
Crysis 2
Mortal Kombat
Shaun White Skateboarding
Ghost Recon:
Tron Evolution
NBA 2K 11

Also supporting Move:
The Fight Lights Out
Eyepet
Tumble
MLB: The Show

12:15 PM PST – A montage of all these games in 3D is being shown.

12:20 PM PST – Playstation Move will support games for hardcore gamers as well as light fare for families. The move controller has three sensors in it. This communicates with the hard drive. This is motion control with precision and it is available in HD or 3D on PS3.

12:26 PM PST – New Playstation titles are being announced.

Sorcery: This seems to be Sony’s answer to Legend of Zelda. It uses Sony Move motion controls. Instead of a sword, you use a wand. The movement is pretty much identical to the movement you make with a Wiimote. This really isn’t nothing new we haven’t seen before Sony.

In Sorcery, you play a Sorcerers apprentice. You can take the form of a rat, as well as other creature forms. This opens up new exploration paths. He can also such people up with his wild and move them thanks to the whirlwind spell. The actual game controls are innovative, but the Sony Move, in my opinion, is not.

12:33 PM PST – EA is giving a demo of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 using Move Motion Controls. The Move option for Tiger Woods will be available as an update when the Move controller debuts this Fall.

12:39 PM PST – Heroes on the Move features six heroes including Jak, Sly, Bently, Clank, and Daxter. A brief video is shown for this title, which is Coming Soon.

Coke is doing a contest with Playstation. You can win a PS3 Move, PS3 Games, etc.

12: 41 PM PST – Kevin Butler has showed up to entertain the crowd. He sure beats Joel McHale. If the Playstation gig doesn’t work out he should go into comedy. He sure has pumped up the crowd and almost has me believing that the Move is something so new and innovative that this is the first time we are seeing this technology.

Playstation Move will be available on November 19, 2010. The system will be $49.99 with controller for $29.99. There is a bundle (eye, controller and game) for $99.

Socom 4, Time Crisis, NBA 2K 11, Ruse, Killzone 3, Singstar Dance, Eyepet, Toy Story 3, Heavy Rain and Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition will all be able to take advantage of Move technology.

Another reel showing all the games available for Move is shown. It also shows that the move controller comes in a variety of colors.

12: 52 PM PST – PSP is kicking off a new campaign to Step Your Game Up. This features a young boy named Marcus, who is hilarious.

Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker is one of those titles that makes the new gaming technology brilliant graphically.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta is named a PSP exclusive game.

Ace Combat Joint Assault, Gravity Crash Portable, DragonballZ new title, Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip, Madden 11, inviZimals (featuring Cam action), Patapon 3, Tetris, Eyepet, Piyotama, Kingdom Hearts, and Valkyria II are among the 70 PSP Titles coming out. There will be 70 by the end of this year.

A video reel of the games for PSP are shown.

1:02 PM PST – The Tztsr: Season 2 has been announced.

PS3 Home has allowed the E3 booth to be replicated so everyone NOT at E3 can check it out. Home also features many free games.

1:05 PM PST – Little Big Planet 2 is massively expanding creating and sharing options. There are better community and sharing features. It features cool mini games. There is plenty of opportunity for fun, competitive gameplay. There are many options for gameplay in the new Little Big Planet 2.

1:10 PM PST – After bashing Xbox Live, Tretton says Playstation Network will remain free, but you can also subscribe to Playstation Plus, which is a subscription service (much like Xbox Live). It makes me wonder how much content will be removed from Playstation Network. It will run for $49.99 per year. Subscribers will get access to early demos, content exclusive to PS3 Plus, full games from PSN, priority on beta play.

1:14 PM PST – EA is offering games that will support all the new console initiatives.

MEDAL OF HONOR is exclusive to PS3. This places gamers in soldiers in Afghanistan. Deuce is a new player in the game. It will be available October 12, 2010. While the gameplay videos are new, I am beginning to wonder where the announcements are for games hardcore gamers will want to play?

DICE is handling the multiplayer. This game looks great, visually, on PS3. Medal of Honor will also be available with Medal of Honor: Frontline.

1:21 PM PST – Dead Space 2 for PS3 is being discussed. Gameplay for the game is being shown. Graphics are great. There will be Dead Space 2 plus a Dead Space Expansion to support Move.

1: 25 PM PST – Valve is here with an announcement. There were rumors this would be big. Portal 2 is coming to the PS3.

1:28 PM PST- Square Enix is hard at work on Final Fantasy XIV. The graphics look brilliant. It looks better than past titles, IMO.

Mafia II will have exclusive, free content for those who buy the PS3 version.

Exclusive content for Assassins Creed: Brotherhood will be available on PS3. The multiplayer beta of the game will only be available on PS3. The game, as we already know, is coming out November 16, 2010.

1:33 PM PST – A video of upcoming titles for PS3 is being shown. This includes Socom 4, Killzone 3, Medal of Honor, Dead Space 2, Mafia II, Madden 11, NBA 2K 11, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Sports Champions, The Fight, NCAA Football 11, Eyepet, Start Party, Little Big Planet 2, The Shoot, echochrome 2, Heroes on the Move, Gran Turismo 5, ModNation Racers, True Crime, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat, Castlevania, Sorcery, DC Universe, Sly and Motorstorm, Tron Evolution: The Game, and Final Fantasy XIV.

WHERE IS THE NEW GAMES SONY??????? You’ve mentioned these titles before.

1:38 PM PST – Gran Turismo 5 is being shown. This has only been briefly mentioned today. It will be available November 2, 2010. The game looks amazing visually (isn’t this what I say for all the Sony games?). The cars are brilliant and the racing is smooth. I want.

1:40 PM PST- This is more like it. Infamous 2 has been announced. The trailer looks awesome and this is the kind of game I was waiting to see. The graphics rock. Awesome new powers for Cole!!! Looking forward to this one. The game design is ROCKIN!

1:42 PM PST- It is the homestretch thank goodness. Another trailer is being shown. It is for the latest Twisted Medal game. This game has been a part of Playstation from the beginning. Now this is more like it. If Sony had more presentations like this I would be thrilled with their conference. Sadly, this is the end and the fun is just beginning.

Sweet Tooth is making his debut on PS3! Twisted Metal is exclusive to PS3.

1:45 PM PST – There is the ability for 16 player multiplayer fun. There is another gameplay trailer, which features Twisted Metal Nuke Mode. The graphics are crazy colorful. This is in another multiplayer mode.

1:52 PM PST – It is OVER thank Goodness!!!!!!!
