Tom Clancy’s Endwar Voice Command Screenshots

Filed under: — Games, Screenshots, Video Game News

You know that voice command option I spoke about earlier today for Tom Clancy’s Endwar? Well, here are some actual screenshots of the Voice Command system in action.

Voice command is going to revolutionize the way game play is handled, I’m sure of that. Without having to use the fancy control system the Wii uses to immerse players into the game, Endwar will do so through voice command. The game will be available for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 (as well as other platforms such as Nintendo DS).

If these screenshots are an indication of how advanced this voice command system is going to be, I can’t wait to play this game and see/experience the full benefits.

Nintendo Preps for Room-to-Room Voice Chatting

Filed under: — Games, Nintendo, Video Game News

I’ve been a huge fan of Nintendo since I received my first NES as a child. Ever since that time, I’ve been following all of their most popular titles. I’ve played Animal Crossing since the series of games began. It isn’t my favorite Nintendo series, but it is fun, nonetheless. I should add that my son (age 14), is a huge fan of this series.

Today, Nintendo sent out a press release about the voice chatting features that are to be a part of the new Animal Crossing game, Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Here’s what Nintendo has to say:

“The new in-game voice chat function for Animal Crossing™: City Folk will be ready to go as soon as the game launches on Nov. 16, using the Wii Speak™ accessory. A separate Wii Speak™ Channel that people can use to chat independent of Animal Crossing: City Folk will be available in December.

The new voice chat function makes use of the new Wii Speak accessory, a microphone that sits on top of the television and allows entire rooms of people to communicate with one another. Only users who have traded Friend Codes can connect with one another using Wii Speak. The accessory is sold separately at an MSRP of $29.99 and will also be available as a bundle with Animal Crossing: City Folk at select retailers at an MSRP of $69.99. The Wii Speak accessory comes with a code that lets users download the Wii Speak Channel from the Wii Shop Channel at no charge.

Tom Clancy's Endwar Xbox 360 box artFor all you fans of Tom Clancy and his video games, here’s some exciting news. “I” personally cannot WAIT to get my hands on a copy of this and the fact that it has voice command makes me a happy camper. They are totally making these games more gimp friendly (and I guess lazy friendly for those of you not in wheelchairs like me). Either way, the voice command feature sounds awesome.

Check out what Ubisoft has to say:

Shaun White Road Trip Q&A

Filed under: — Interviews, Video Game News

Shaun White Screenshot 1

Here are the answers posted from the Q&A with Shaun White Road Trip Screen Writer, Mario Galardo.

Q: Can you give us a summary of the game’s storyline?

A: You and your friends travel the world trying to hook up with Shaun who’s plans to go on a snowboarding road trip with you were foiled by last minute obligations. You follow Shaun’s path from Canada to Chile and eventually in the Alps, Japan and the U.S. trying to meet up with him, which you eventually do. Along the way you meet knew friends who have in their own way something to bring to the road trip. As a rider, each friend contributes in his own way to your growth as a snowboarder. In the end you realise snowboarding is more than just riding down the mountain. It is about friendship and sharing the life of a snowboarder with others.

Q: What were you going for in the character’s design?

A: We really wanted to have a good variety of characters that would visually differ from each other. It was really important since we wanted to have entirely different personalities for each of them. Also, we did not want to use real people. We could have simply taken some of the real pro snowboarders out there and tried to caricaturize them to our style, but it would have made our characters less authentic. When I write for characters, I prefer creating my own rather than trying to shape a personality around a real person’s. It is more creative and way more fun.

Leading Online Platform for PC Games Extends Portability

Filed under: — Press Releases, Video Game News

November 3, 2008 - Valve, creators of best-selling entertainment products and advanced technologies, today announced the roll out of Steam Cloud, a set of services for Steam that stores application data online and allows user experiences to be consistent from any PC. Steam Cloud is a free extension to Steam, a leading a platform for PC games with over 15 million accounts worldwide.

Steam Cloud support will ship with Valve’s Left 4 Dead demo later this week and the full game on November 18. In this first release, the information stored and accessible through the Steam Cloud includes keyboard, mouse, and gamepad configurations, as well as multiplayer settings such as spraypaint images.

The Steam Cloud will “just work,” meaning any user changes to their game options will propagate to the Cloud by default. Upon logging into Steam from another PC, these settings will be brought down from the Cloud and automatically leveraged by the game. Any configuration changes on this second machine are then synced to the Cloud for future sessions.

Steam Cloud will be available to all publishers and developers using Steam, free of charge, and Valve will add Cloud support to its back catalog of Steam games. Cloud services are compatible with games purchased via Steam, at retail, and other digital outlets.
