The Game of 2008 I’m Most Looking Foward To: Fallout 3

Ever since Bethesda Softworks announced the release of “Fallout 3″, slated for sometime in Fall 2008, at the E3 conference, I’ve been dying to get my hands on a copy of the game.

The game will be released for XBOX 360, Playstation 3, and Windows Vista on October 28, 2008. This is the one game I absolutely fell in love with through its visibility at E3. I’m not sure if its the possibility of using everything from Teddy Bears to lunch boxes as weapons or the intriguing back story (or VATS - which is wicked) that makes this game so appealing. Either way, October 28 simply cannot come fast enough!

For those who have no idea what “Fallout 3″ is about, check out this video.

Did I mention how awesome the graphics are?

Video Games Aren’t Bad for Kids

For years people have complained and suggested that any video game use at all could cause harm to kids. Like complaints concerning television, every excuse from the cause of obesity to losing brain cells or the ability to turn someone into a killer have been cited as reasons why we should not let our kids play games. I have always believed that it’s not the system as a whole, but the games that you should censor.

The best thing that a parent can do is have an active role in their child’s choice of media. Just like you would stop them from watching a rated R movie if they were too young, you shouldn’t let them play a rated M video game. This doesn’t make the game wrong, it just means that a child isn’t ready to play it. There are a number of E (Everyone) or T (Teen) games that are suitable for kids. There are also a number of educational games worth looking at.

Now it’s being considered that video games are actually a good thing for kids. I have to say, I don’t think they are bad, but I don’t think they are great if all they do is play. In all things there needs to be a healthy balance. Find the games that are good for your child and let them play in moderation.

Yahoo!’s website, Shine, which reaches 10 million women each month, hosted the survey throughout June 2008. The study found that 87% of parents who participated in the survey are spending time playing video games with their children. “Family video game nights are becoming incredibly popular with the variety of games out there,” said Linda Fears, editor-in-chief, Family Circle magazine. “Parents and children of all ages are finding games to play together, no matter what each person’s experience level.”

Publisher X Splashes Beer Pong - BPONG 2009 Edition™ onto the Apple® iPhone™ and iPod® Touch

Hugely popular competitive drinking sport taking campuses and country by storm

San Francisco, California – October 8, 2008 – If you like beer and playing games on your iPhone, then it just keeps getting better and better! Publisher X, a global publisher of digitally downloadable games and interactive software, and CodeGlue, a Dutch game development studio that specializes in arcade games for mobile, handhelds and consoles, announced today they are teaming up to bring Beer Pong - BPONG 2009 Edition™, a game based on one of the most competitive and fastest-growing leisure sports in the country, to the Apple App Store.

“Following up the success of Beer Bounce (Quarters), it was a no-brainer we should make Beer Pong available as well,” said Doug Kennedy, co-founder of Publisher X. “These types of social beer drinking sports are highly fun and competitive - even without the drinking. This is the next best thing to sinking a few cups with your buddies. After the launch of Beer Bounce, we received a steady flow of emails from our customers asking for Beer Pong, and we have high expectations for this title.”

Beer Pong – BPONG 2009 Edition takes its name from BPONG.COM, the official governing body of the annual World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP), the largest Beer Pong tournament in the world. Beer Pong – BPONG 2009 Edition will be using the official rules standardized by BPONG.COM and used in every WSOBP match.

For those who have been living under a rock for the past decade or so, Beer Pong (also known as “Beirut” in some localized areas) is a highly competitive drinking game that is more like a sport, typically played by students on college campuses nationwide.

Ashtyn is definitely the casual gamer in the family. A game fan since she owned an Atari, Ashtyn can remember when her brother rigged the television so he wouldn’t lose his Super Mario Bros. game. That is, until the power went out! A fan of all things Mario, Ashtyn is a Nintendo loyalist. She digs playing Mario-style RPG games, watching others play violent shooters (because she sucks at them), and playing casual PC games (like Wedding Dash and Cake Mania). As of now, she is into the Wii and Nintendo DS, though she’s certain the games for PS3 and Xbox 360 are more appealing.
